" [ One of ] the biggest moments came from Christine Suits as the excitable keeper of Holy St. Francis. "- The Wall Street Journal "Ava [ was ] impeccably rendered by Ms. Suits." -The Wall Street Journal “The sheer artistry displayed by soprano Christine Roo Suits in the title role can only be described as classically masterful, especially in the famous aria of madness. It was simply magical, combining an exquisite display of vocal quality, technical excellence, and the interpretative intensity. Despite extreme situations, such as singing with her back on the floor, Suits did not lose a note, or compromise the potency of character . The comments of the patrons after the show were that she had been better than many singers who occupy the big billboards. Suits’s presence was worth the long journey to the distant but beautiful theater.” -El Nuevo Herold “Christine Roo Suits may be a star in the making. Tall and regal, Suits owned the stage. She showed stage charisma and took theatrical wing. Her portrayal of Lucia’s confusion and despair in the wedding scene was devastating in sheer force. The sight of her entrance in a blood drenched wedding gown after killing the bridegroom Arturo was appropriately horrifying, and her hallucinations about marriage to her lover Edgardo as she embraced one of the chorus of wedding guests were palpably conveyed. One could truly believe this Lucia had been driven to madness. V ocally Suits was even more impressive. Her sizable lyric-coloratura instrument has unusual strength and color in the lower register. She spun a radiant “Regnava nel silenzio” and her scales and roulades in the cabaletta “Quando rapito in estasi” were clean and produced without strain at the top or breaks between registers. Suits’ Mad Scene was frightening as she paced the stage lost in her imagined world while spinning accurate, rapid-fire coloratura. With some additional experience and dramatic seasoning, this tremendously gifted young soprano may be headed for leading roles in major houses.” -South Florida Classical Review |
"Another revelation [ of Rocking Horse Winner ] is the performance of Christine Suits as the mother. She is simply a star in the making. She also had a major role in Vinkensport. Her diversity is dazzling."
-The Saratogian
"The next great American Coloratura!" -Virginia Zeani
"Christine Roo Suits brought sensitivity, innocence, and nuanced singing to the lead role. Her coloratura seems to be of the dramatic variety as she lacks nothing in power though se has all the flexibility and agility demanded by such a role. Violetta must be glamorous yet accessible. We have to admire her beauty and believe in her innate goodness. She has to maintain a sincerity while moving among a materialistic and jaded leisure class. It's hard for any average person to identify with someone like Ms. Valery but Ms Suits brought the right stuff and then some."- basssbuff.com
